The Musical biography of Andrew McC

When I was small, I always wanted to play the piano, mostly because my older sister Anna and my dad both regularly tinkled the ivories. Certain pieces, like the Mozart Fantasia in D minor, are imprinted in my brain as a result of early-morning renditions my dad used to give before he went to school (he was a late developer... just kidding, he's a retired French and Spanish teacher: por eso, puedo tambien hablar un poquito de Español y Francés!). So that's always been my main instrument, which I still play daily. Also when I was young, my mum (a violinist in her youth) bought an 1/8th size violin (aaah, sweet: no not really, just very squeeky). I can just about play well enough to be in the Haffner Orchestra, but I struggle more with scraping than tinkling (as it were). It's getting better though, and I really enjoy getting my fiddle out now (whereas before it was a bit of an ordeal) and have started getting into string quartets (this can also be financially rewarding when somebody wants one for a party: I've done three so far with hopefully more to come!)

I sing in the university choir, which is great fun, but I don't sing well enough to call myself a singer! Back to "music"
